This 3-month training program is offered in several countries by Youth with a Mission (YWAM) and serves as a preparation course for missionaries who wish to stay mid- or long-term in a specific country. Here in Quelimane, we want to give Africans in particular the chance to be trained in this field to effectively spread the Gospel on an intra- and a cross cultural level. The hunger to get proper training is immense among Africans today and we notice a mentality shift in general more and more on the African continent. Many have grown up with the attitude that only the “White” can go into missions. However, we see that God has kindled a new fire in the hearts of the local people a long time ago and “opens new doors” to mobilize “Africans for Missions”. Whether it is about missions within or beyond the African continent, culture and language vary and mix even within the same nation, so this is an important topic of the course. Other topics focus on teamwork and team dynamics, cultural adaption and communication, dealing with challenges on the missions field and questions such as “what is church really about?” and “what does it mean to plant a church in a local context on a biblical foundation?” Lectures, coming from an international team of missionaries, means that no lesson is taken from a textbook but is rooted in real life experiences from which we can learn. The course is held bilingually in English and Portuguese.
