Volunteers on the ground

Sina

Sina is founder and chairwoman of Tagaraga – Mercy Ministries Mozambique e.V. and completed both medical studies and specialist training as a general practitioner in Germany. In 2011, she emigrated to Australia, where she staffed medical training programs at YWAM (Youth With a Mission), Perth. There she led the “Medical Missions School” for several years, where medical personnel receive six-month training in theory and practice as preparation for the missionary field. After finishing her volunteer time at YWAM Perth, she successfully completed two courses as preparation for long-term missions in Mozambique (“Bible school for the Nations”, “School of Frontier Missions”) Her current tasks include healthcare training and mentoring, organizing and facilitating medical outreaches and oral-bible-translation projecs into the Carungo language. Besides that, she is involved in the administrative work on the missionary base. Sina has been part of the YWAM Quelimane leadership team since 2020 side by side with Keneth and Justino.

Justino and Noemi with Giovanna

Justino (from Mozambique) is the missionary base leader of YWAM Quelimane and has been married to Noemi (from Brazil) since March 2020. Together they have a daughter who was born in February 2022. Justino is a trained electrician but also a skilled translator, car mechanic and a fabulous cook who really knows his way around Mozambique cuisine.
Justino’s interest and understanding of wood-work, engineering and creating practical things led him to build all kinds of furniture and an hydraulic drill for well-building. He brings youth and young adults around him and teaches them those skills to also invest into their lives. Together they build, create, drill, restore and repair to bless others or to sell their self-made items. Alongside his practical giftings Justino has a passion for training missionaries in discipleship, church planting and frontier missions. His life is completely tuned in to God’s plan for improving the population’s quality of life, to sow God’s love and to see it multiplied.
Besides being a mother to Giovanna, Noemi teaches children at pre-school and primary school-level and mentors the volunteers of the YWAM pre-school.

Reijane

Brazilian born Reijane came to YWAM Quelimane with her sister Noemi in 2017. She’s a trained dietitian and loves to apply her skills in the pre-school at the missionary base as well as in our basic healthcare training. She graduated from the course herself in 2022. Together with Noemi she is involved in the pre-school wth her organizational and practical-creative skills. She also heads up “hospitality” on base and is happy to lend a helping hand wherever needed.

Keneth & Amelia with their children Jossias, Ruben, Abigail and Tilo

Keneth leads one of the house churches on Inhassunge and oversees several satellite churches that emerged out of the multiplication of believers due to discipleship and pastoral care of young people. After having completed his five-months healthcare training (Primary Healthcare School) in 2019 he has been running a small health post as a locally recognized Basic Community Health worker on a volunteer basis. Besides that, he got wholeheartedly involved in the oral-bible-translation projects that he heads up with Sina. Alongside with Justino and Sina, Keneth serves on the YWAM Quelimane leadership team. His wife Amelia, who also completed the health course in 2019, is involved in church ministry and helps out at the health post when needed. The two are passionate about seeing people come to know the truth and live healthy lives. By showing practical love through healthcare, they win the hearts of many people who seek help from them from many parts of the island.

Hortencio & Mariana with their children Rosa, Inocencio and Rute

Hortencio is a trained stone mason and is experienced in every type of practical building work and agriculture. He and Mariana are dedicated volunteers on the island of Inhassunge and are passionate about pre- and primary school education. They have a vision to implement God-centered and bible-based education, especially for under-privileged children. The children shall not only learn how to read and write or math and basic science, but learn about Christian values which are presented through biblical stories, song, dance, drama and games. The name of their vision is “The children’s universe”.

Germilo and Graciela with Dionizia, Melquisedeque and Genesio

Germilo and Graciela live with their children in Madango on Inhassunge island. Both of them have done a Discipleship Training School and a Frontier Missions School with Youth With A Mission, but they are not part of the YWAM Quelimane staff. They serve in a local church in Madango, where Germilo has taken on a pastoral role and is part of the leadership team. He has got a big heart for his people and for healthcare, which is why he completed the Basic Healthcare Course in Quelimane in 2022 and has been providing basic healthcare in Madango until today. The local government liked his initiative and handed a health post over to him and therefore recognized him officially as a voluntary community health worker. Germilo treats and gives counsel to 100-150 patients per week.
